A look at Garo: Yami O Terasu Mono episode 17

Well, for my first post, since I'm just starting up, I'll start with the most recent and most shocking series- Garo: Yami O Terasu Mono [牙狼〈GARO〉~闇を照らす者~ (Garo: The one who shines in the Darkness)]

A quick recap and introduction to this series for those who haven't seen it yet (Please do us a favor and go kill yourself). Garo:YOTM is set a number of (unspecified) years after the previous series, Garo: MakaiSenki (Please look it up. I'll wait.) For those who STILL don't know what Garo is (Please, spare yourself from the mystery, just go *ahem* acquire them here and here), Garo is a series about a man who wears a golden armor and cuts down monsters. HEY DON'T LEAVE YET!  It's an interesting series. Please go watch it.

Okay, now that we are acquainted with Garo, the armor and stuff, let's start our dissection on Garo: YOTM episode 17- Tousei . As in the tradition of Garo: YOTM, the episode title is one part Kanji and one part English Word. Today's word is 裏 (uragi) which means betrayal, and Tousei, the name of the mastermind behind everything in this series as revealed in Episode 16.

In my not so humble opinion, the name of this episode is very fitting as it shows the truth- Tousei is a traitor amongst their midst. But anyways, let's move on to the episode.

The episode begins with Riviera narrating. About 2 minutes in, I immediately facepalmed. Oh gods. Oh Hera. Oh Odin. Oh most holy Ra. This was going to be another damned clip show. We had one of these two weeks ago, in episode 15. But anyways, being a true die-hard, soul-metal fan, I persevered.
but we learned that two episodes back! T^T

Anyways, we see the incident from TOUSEI's eyes (Thank ye Gods). Apparently Sonshi comes in, reports to Tousei that a man decked in Gold is in town, and Tousei just acts all cool and stuff.

We get a few more minutes of explanation, and then we are treated to an scene to where and how Madou Horrors come into existence through the conversion of Enhou.

This scene is interesting because it is essentially a remake one of episode 4's scenes through the eyes of Tousei this time. Episode 4's scenes are set from the eyes of Enhou by the way. In fact, clues were spread in Episode 4 that flew over our heads.

First we see his finger unbandaged....

Then all of a sudden the finger is bandaged with no explanations?!

And WHY ARE THERE TWO MARKS ON THE TABLE when the cup was placed only once?!

And so, we see how one is transformed into a Madou Horror, and that song of the Goddess is a catalyst for the transformation / requiem for Zedom.

And then we get some more filler scenes seen from the point of Tousei, including the meeting at the museum, and the chase scene in which Tousei was knocked out....but it is revealed that HE has the Zedom seed at that time and wanted to convert Ryuga.

And finally, FINALLY, we get down to business. The story connects with the present, as Ryuuga is determined to find and cut down Tousei. But unfortunately, Tousei realizes the Cat's out of the Bag, or The Horrors' out of the Inga Gate, and decides to take over the city.

No but FOR THE LOVE OF EVERYTHING HOLY hide that hair. It's an atrocity.
And so he begins a campaign to destroy the Kaneshiro Family and make himself the sole heir. Of course he succeeds. Failing this doesn't make for good stories. We get a few scenes of people getting killed (*cough* ripped off from The Dark Knight Rises *cough*), though no ACTUAL scenes, because this is a family-friendly  show with budgets.

And so, with his newfound powers, he indicts every single member of the Vol City Makai gang, and then we get another Fugitive arc, only this time it's the entire gang. This isn't going well.

Makai Gang trading cards. Each Sold Separately.
And so, the episode ominously ends with Tousei taking control of Vol City, and the Makai Gang in trouble. Dun dun dunnnn......

Introducing...the Elite Four of Vol City! *cue Elite Four Music*

Overall, this is a good revelation episode. The unshown clips were interspersed very well, and Tousei's character was build excellently. Dude went from being a steak chef to the Power-Hungry tyrant in less than 20 minutes. With 14 people dead (including children), this establishes GARO as a series NOT for children and the faint of heart. Other than that, ambiguous fates still stand. WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO THE JUSTICE LEAGUE  Makai Knights?
